What Do YOU Make?

Salary is usually a taboo topic. No one wants to let others know what he or she makes. But admit it, you want to know what other people make, right? Well, you have to give a little to get a little, so open up and participate in the 2015 AMWA Salary Survey. In the end, you will know what your colleagues make, yet all individual information will be anonymous and confidential. It is a win-win, if you ask me.

Read all about it! EMWA, AMWA, and the new CORE Reference

Last year during my presidency I spoke and wrote about an exciting partnership between the European Medical Writers Association (EMWA) and AMWA: the Budapest Working Group (BWG). The BWG just issued an important press release and I wanted to share it with you right away. Click here to read all about it!

December 2, 2014 is Giving Tuesday. But any day is a great day to make a tax-deductible, secure online donation to AMWA! Give back to the organization that is The Resource for Medical Communicators--you will get so much in return!

Oh, the Progress We Have Made!

Just back from the annual conference in Memphis--what a wonderful, exhilarating, and exhausting time! I had the great pleasure of presiding as your president, and now Karen Klein has taken the helm as president of AMWA. Please join me in congratulating her and wishing her well. Karen is a superb leader and I am excited about the year ahead. As I assume my new role as immediate past-president, I want to share with you the text of my speech at the opening session. I hope to see all of you in San Antonio next year to celebrate our 75th Anniversary!

Opinions, please?

In June 2013, AMWA launched its new website and the Online Forums. We have heard from individual members but now want to hear from all members just what you think of the Online Forums.

The Start of Something Big!

On April 10, 2014, leaders of the American Medical Writers Association, the Drug Information Association (DIA), the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP), and the Society for Technical Communication (STC) met in Bethesda, MD, for the first-ever Medical Communications Inter-organizational Summit.

A funny thing happened on my way to the forum...

AMWA members are pretty savvy with technology. But when posting recently to one of the online forums I discovered a lot of members do not know how to set themselves up to follow forums or discussion topics. For a while, it was Greek to me, too! Now people are catching on and the forums are starting to catch fire.

Of students, scholars, and surveys

We were all students once, and some of us still are. AMWA is excited to be supporting student research in biomedical communications, a subject that is certainly near and dear to our hearts! I invite you to read on, and I urge you to participate.

Off to a great start!

As February comes to a close, we are off to a great start! I am excited to report on the progress we have been making in keeping AMWA on track and moving in the right direction.

Happy New Year! With a fresh new year ahead, I have some interesting information to share with you about the upcoming winter Executive Committee (EC) meeting, which will be held in a few weeks. (Spoiler alert: we are undertaking a few new activities that stand to benefit all AMWA members.) I also have some sad news to share about the recent passing of a loved and respected former AMWA member. More about that in my blog.
