AMWA Self-Study Workshops

In response to the growing demand for AMWA educational workshops and a need to access them conveniently, self-study workshops are being made available. The modules are designed for medical communicators at all levels of experience, and provide long-term value as reference guides.

Each self-study workshop module includes a workbook with examples and exercises, a CD-ROM featuring an interactive PDF of the workbook, a laminated Quick Guide, and an answer sheet for people pursuing an AMWA certificate. AMWA's certificate program is an extensive continuing education program for professional communicators in the medical and allied scientific fields. Certificates are currently offered in Essential Skills, Business, Composition and Publication, Concepts in Science and Medicine, and Regulatory and Research. The self-study modules are applicable to the Essential Skills (ES) certificate, which requires completion of 7 ES workshops or modules, plus the workshop or module Essential Ethics for Medical Communicators. Successful completion of a module test can be used to acquire certificate credit as follows: 2 credits for Basic Grammar and Usage, 1 for Punctuation for Clarity and Style, 1 for Sentence Structure and Patterns, and 1 for Statistics. If you would like to receive certificate credit for completing a module, you must enroll in the Essential Skills certificate or be currently enrolled in the Core or Science Fundamentals certificate program before credit can be applied. You can enroll by completing the certificate erollment form on the Web site. Only the purchaser of the module can earn credit.

A module on Element of Medical Terminology will be released this fall, followed by Essential Ethics for Medical Communicators.
