As you may have already noted, the AMWA listserves were suspended as of May 15 in preparation for the transition to the new online forums. The online forums will launch when the new AMWA website goes live by July 1. The new forums will offer members a way to connect with each other virtually as the listserves did, but will offer enhanced functionality such as searchable discussion archives, personalized member profiles and the ability to self-manage subscription preferences. We recognize that transitions can be challenging, but the results can also be rewarding, which we believe will be the case with the online forums. We hope you will join the discussions once the new forums are live—watch for the Summer 2013 issue of the AMWA Journal for an article detailing the new website, including instructions for getting started with the new online forums.
About AMWA's Listserves
AMWA's Listserves are e-mail forums where AMWA members share their knowledge about medical communication and discuss the latest industry news. No minimum length of experience in medical communication is required for participation. In some cases, it is useful for members, when asking a question, to indicate their level of experience, so respondents can target their replies.
Three listserves are open to all members:
- Editing-Writing --- discussions about medical communication in general (usually fewer than 20 messages per day)
- Freelance --- discussions about about the business aspects of freelancing (usually fewer than 10 messages per day)
- Pharma --- discussions about regulatory documents and other topics related to the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries (usually fewer than 1 message per day)
An additional listserve is restricted to members who advertise in the Freelance Directory:
- Freelance Opportunities --- for offering one's services to other freelances, seeking subcontractors, or referring overflow work. Also, subscribers receive e-mail alerts about freelance, temporary, and contract jobs that are posted to the Jobs Online section of the AMWA Web site. Click here for more information
Archives: The 3 unrestricted listserves have archives that are available to all members, regardless of whether you subscribe to that listserve. You can search by topic, date, author, and so forth. Click here to search the archives.
Digest: The 3 unrestricted listserves have a "digest" option you can select to reduce the number of e-mails you receive. Your digest delivery will include one long message within an e-mail or multiple attachments to an e-mail. Problem? If your e-mail program doesn't work in one of those 2 ways, it is not an option for the digest. You will need to receive the messages individually or read the archives (see above).
