issue of AMWA Conference Connector. The AMWA Conference Connector

peers, and explore the growing field of medical communication. AMWA AWARD WINNERS AND 2012 ANNUAL CONFERENCE SPEAKERS Dr Neal Baer is the McGovern Award winner and keynote speaker.
Dr Neal Baer currently
serves as the Executive Producer of CBS-TV’s A Gifted Man and is a medical expert and senior fellow at the
University of Southern California Center for Communication Leadership and
Policy. Dr Baer’s career in television has garnered him 7 Emmy Award
nominations, as well as a People’s Choice Award, and he has worked on
multiple critically acclaimed shows, including NBC’s ER and Law & Order: SVU.
Dr Baer will be the
keynote speaker and recipient of AMWA’s prestigious John P. McGovern Award.
Don’t miss this great opportunity to hear from a speaker whose medical
communications reach such a global audience. Mary Roach is the 2012 Alvarez Award recipient.
Mary Roach’s humorous
examinations of science and the human experience have made her a popular
author and columnist. She is the renowned author of 4 books, Stiff—The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers;
Spook—Science Tackles the Afterlife;
Bonk—The Curious Coupling of Science
and Sex; and her latest, Packing
for Mars—The Curious Science of Life in the Void. As recipient of the
Walter C. Alvarez Award, Ms Roach will speak during the Alvarez Award
Luncheon, and her presentation is sure to be very entertaining and
educational. EXPANDED CREDIT OPTIONS FOR WORKSHOP ATTENDANCE In response to AMWA
member requests, the number of credit workshops you may take at the annual
conference has been increased to 4, and the number of advanced workshops you
may take has been increased to 3. These changes will help those who are
enrolled in the certificate program get closer to their certificate goals at
a single annual conference. This year we will be
offering more than 85 workshops to help you reach your professional
development goals. A complete list of
the workshops that will be offered at the 2012 Annual Conference is now
available for review. EXCITING NEW OPEN SESSIONS AND INNOVATIVE NETWORKING EVENTS With
more than 40 open sessions free to conference attendees, the general
registration fee provides more value than ever. Two
open sessions will be led by representatives of the FDA. Greg Busse, PhD, will present an open session, “FDA Drug
Safety Communications: Principles, Practice, and Evaluation.” Lisa Hubbard, RPh, of the FDA Office of Pharmaceutical Drug Promotion
(formerly DDMAC), will present an open session, “FDA Do’s and Don’ts of
Advertising and Promotion.” A full list of open sessions at the 2012 Annual
Conference will be made available soon at amwa.org. Networking is a key
priority for the 2012 conference! Networking sessions will be plentiful each
and every day. This year’s conference will incorporate old favorites, new
opportunities, and enhanced occasions. New offerings include a wine and
cheese networking reception Thursday evening and a free networking luncheon

Annual Conference registration rates and hotel information now available on amwa.org. The conference
planning team is hard at work finalizing the program schedule. As program
details are confirmed, information will be updated regularly in the
conference section of amwa.org and will be shared through AMWA
Conference Connector. Registration opens in mid-to-late June 2012. We
