AMWA Journal Contribution Information

The AMWA Journal is the official publication of the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA). Delivered quarterly to AMWA members and journal subscribers, the AMWA Journal is designed to be an authoritative, comprehensive source of information about the knowledge, skills, and opportunities in the field of biomedical communications worldwide. This goal is accomplished by the publishing of articles, columns, features, news, and interviews in the field of biomedical communications.

Topics should be relevant to one of the following AMWA sections:

  • writing and editing
  • education
  • public relations/advertising/marketing
  • pharmaceutical
  • freelance

REGULAR FEATURES
FEATURE ARTICLES should be original compositions, no longer than 3,000 words, that are timely and relevant for an audience of professional biomedical communicators. Topics of interest are likely to be found in any setting in which such professionals work. Relevant tables and figures that help convey the message of the text are encouraged.

LETTERS TO THE MANAGING EDITOR comment on topics published in the AMWA Journal or matters of relevance to biomedical communicators. Letters are published at the discretion of the editor and editorial advisers and are subject to editing and abridgment. Letters should be no longer than 500 words. All letters should be directed to the Managing Editor at AMWA headquarters.

FROM THE TRENCHES column addresses political, economic, technological, regulatory, and ethical changes affecting AMWA members. Ideas and material should be sent to Robert P. Hand, From the Trenches Editor, at AMWA headquarters.

DEAR EDIE column includes letters from biomedical communicators on English usage and Dear Edie’s responses. All correspondence should be sent directly to Edie Schwager, Dear Edie Column Editor, at edieschwager@cs.com or 4404 Sherwood Road, Philadelphia, PA 19131-1526.

MEDIA REVIEWS include solicited and unsolicited reviews of books, videos, CD-ROMs, and websites. Reviews are accepted for consideration with the understanding that they have not appeared and are not under review elsewhere. Selection of items and reviewers is at the sole discretion of the Editor. Publishers should send one copy of each item to the Editor at AMWA headquarters. AMWA members interested in writing reviews of books, videos, or CD-ROMs should contact the Editor at AMWA headquarters, and members who have found useful websites should send an e-mail to melbogen@optonline.net.

VIEWPOINTS column provides AMWA members an opportunity to share their opinions. Manuscripts should be approximately 1000 words and may be on any topic relevant to biomedical communications.

CHAPTER NEWS includes brief reports of chapter events and activities, details on upcoming events, and new Chapter officers. All correspondence should be sent to Julie Longlet, Chapter News Editor, at jlonglet@hotmail.com.

MEMBER NEWS includes information on members’ promotions, new positions, awards, publications, and obituaries. All correspondence should be sent to Lise Stevens, Member News Editor, at AMWA headquarters.
