Growing advocacy for transparency and access to results of clinical trials has prompted considerable debate on the topic of open access publishing and has highlighted a lack of common understanding of what open access is, why it’s important, and how it works. This webinar, developed by Medical Publishing Insights & Practices (MPIP), is designed to raise awareness and enhance understanding of open access publishing among medical writers.

  • Describe traditional, hybrid, and open access publishing models of medical journals
  • Discern between predatory publishers and open access publishers
  • Explain open access publishing options, including license types, embargos, and archiving, to authors
  • Counsel authors on the pros and cons of various open access publishing options
  • Discuss resources such as PubMed Central and Unpaywall and select the appropriate resource for their needs
