At last, the 11th edition of the AMA Manual of Style has arrived! This session will highlight policy changes, updates large and small, and new entries. Topics to be covered include new reference entries, updates to nomenclature in a variety of disciplines, new standards for ethical and legal issues in scholarly publishing, updated usage guidance, expanded coverage of statistical terms, refreshed examples of data presentation, and a host of updates on grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and abbreviations. I will also cover some of the most common questions we're asked and leave time for questions from attendees.

Learning Objectives

To give participants a preview of what to expect in the next edition of the AMA Manual of Style, including editorial, technical, and ethical issues that face us in the digital age.

At the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • apply updates in style and policy that biomedical writers and editors face daily
  • identify resources to help them make decisions on data presentation, ethical/legal issues, and appropriate language choices.
