Prepare to Take the MWC® Exam

It is never too early to start preparing for the exam. You may start preparing before you apply, but you will need to be approved to sit for the exam before you can register to take the exam.

MWC Examination Candidate Study Guide

Reviewing the Candidate Study Guide is a great way to begin preparing for the exam. It includes information about preparation recommendations, the Examination Content Outline, example topics and questions, and selected preparation resources.

Preparation Resources

The MWC Exam covers broad aspects of medical writing. Even experienced medical writers may find it necessary to complete a review of areas within the field with which they are less familiar.

  • The Exam Content Outline, found in the Study Guide and  Applicant and Candidate Handbook, lists the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) considered necessary for competency in the field of medical writing and the approximate percentage of exam questions that will come from each area of the outline. All exam questions relate directly to the KSAs linked to the 5 domains of the content outline (Gathering, Evaluating, Organizing, Interpreting, and Presenting).
  • Review study tips from medical writers who have passed the exam and earned the MWC credential.
