Robin Whitsell to Receive 2025 Harold Swanberg Award

Monday, September 8, 2025

The Swanberg Award recognizes distinguished contributions to medical communication and is one of the highest awards an AMWA member can receive.

Robin Whitsell, BA, BPh, has nearly 30 years of experience in the life sciences industry. She is the founder and president of Whitsell Innovations, Inc. (WI), a boutique regulatory writing and consulting firm. Prior to founding WI, Robin was the assistant director of preclinical and clinical development at Inspire Pharmaceuticals and previously worked as a clinical research scientist and team lead at GlaxoWellcome (now GlaxoSmithKline).

She has made extensive contributions to the field of medical communication, and throughout her career, she has been recognized by several organizations for her work and active role in advancing regulatory writing and medical affairs. Her accolades include: 2011 winner of the Count Me In M3 Pitch Competition, 2019 recipient of the Diversity Alliance for Science (DA4S) Linda Secola Volunteer of the Year Award and two-time honoree in the DA4S Eight That Innovate competition (winning in 2017 and placing as runner-up in 2022), and 2020 recipient of the Excellence in Service Award from the Drug Information Association’s (DIA) Medical Affairs and Scientific Communications Forum.

Robin has been an active volunteer with AMWA for many years. She has led education sessions at the annual Medical Writing & Communication Conference since 2013, written articles for the AMWA Journal, and served on the Regulatory Medical Writing Executive Advisory Council since 2019.

In addition to volunteering with AMWA, she also is on the Board of Directors for DA4S, the Alliance for Science, and a track chair for the Medical Affairs and Scientific Communication Track of the DIA Annual Global Meeting.

We look forward to honoring her with this award at #AMWA2025!
